From my understanding it's the intended stepping stone to be able to reliably access the volcano.And Health perks, if you are able to get them, are potentially higher value than Agility perks. So have the thrall wear heavy armour with 1K+ armour, try and get health to 8K-10K with armour abilities (many heavy armour sets have health attributes) and Thrall health perks.
