After I reassembled it, with all new gaskets of course, I checked the compression before adjusting the valve clearance just to make sure things were sealing properly. I got 140-150-155 for readings, a lot better than the 60-105-75 ...
Now to the question of the controls: Ferguson for many decades has used a 2 lever system with one for Draft control and the other for Position control. They are intended to work as follows: With the draft control all the way to one end (ones I've worked with it was the top end) the Draft Control is intentionally taken out of the picture. After reading on the forums (What a great resource), I suspected the hydraulics to be stuck in draft control mode. Cubby: The pin is welded to the draft control plate and prevents the draft control plunger from rotating. The yoke is threaded onto the plunger and can be removed by turning counter clockwise if it is not rusted to the plunger as is common. If it will not turn, do not force it but rather heat the yoke to cherry red with a torch and try again.Ford 860 - Recent purchase. Also there is a cam follower pin (dowel) that gets badly worn from riding on a cam for many years. Replace it. If the cam is badly worn, build it up with weld and grind it back to near original. Is something bent, worn, or out of place? I have never had the rock shaft cover off of one of these machines but I have pulled lots of JDs.
In draft control mode, pressurize the unit and move the touch control lever up a bit at a time. The lift arms should not move until the touch lever is well up near the top of the quadrant, and then they should go all the way up. This is correct, as draft control is about keeping the implement down at a constant depth.
The cam follower pin sits in a small hole in the perimeter of the opening that's exposed in the rear axle center housing when you remove the top cover. It's on the right side and should be just above and to the rear of the flow control knob. It's shown in my I&T FO-31 manual in Figure 389.
