May 1, 2016 · Question: I had attempted ABIM initial certification exam in 2018, and failed. At the time I had just completed IM residency and was entering HPM fellowship. I didn't really study, honestly. I had bought Uworld Qbank, MKSAP 18 (which came iwth board basics for MKSAP 18), and my residency gave us the MedStudy 16th edition books (core). Otherwise Uworld can be helpful, and I would consider the Board Basics book from MKSAP even if you’re not finding the qbank helpful. I did awesome review and I took the in-person course. It was helpful along with Board Basics and MKSAP. MKSAP tested on so much useless knowledge that was way beyond the scope of IM (sooo much detailed chemo regimens). UWorld on the other hand was very high yield. I noticed many questions on the ABIM that were almost word for word the same.

I finished my first pass of UWORLD recently with percentages in the low 50s. I'm doing a second pass of UWORLD now and am hovering around 75% so far. I've also been reading board basics. Medstudy questions: 80%, but only did 25% of q's. Did over 2500 questions in total.
