Another great post, this one is similar to a build I did on single player to house a wheel of pain near the black galleon. Mine just has 3 floors to fit every crafting station and the wheel on ground floor of course. I will enchance it with your idea of the towers on the sides where the circle outer ring has 2 foundations!
Foundations offer much more stability and are less likely to give you stability bugs (that will make your stuff disappear). I always put my important stuff on foundations. I use ceilings and pillars to get 100 stability because I read foundations cause lag. I also prefer the pattern change on the floor.
