New York's High Line has been a game changer ever since 2009, when its southernmost section opened to the public. But in all the books subsequently written about the elevated park built on an abandoned railway above Manhattan's gritty West Side, one voice was missing, that of the renowned artist of naturalistic landscapes who designed the High Line's plantings, Piet Oudolf.

Since its inception in 2009, walking the High Line has become a right of passage for almost anyone who visits the city. On this nearly 2-mile stretch of historic rail line on Manhattan’s West Side, you’ll quite literally stroll through history, from the city’s bustling Meatpacking District to Hudson Yards at West 34th Street.
The High Line runs from Gansevoort and Washington Streets in the Meatpacking District, up through West Chelsea and Hudson Yards to 34th Street near 11th Avenue across from the Javits Center. There are more than dozen access points along the route, including four with elevators. The park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
