May 3, 2014 · I inherited a John Deere 318 that seemed to be working fine. I had to replace a battery cable because the terminal clamp was broken. Everything seemed good, and it started up and ran after the replacement fine. I engaged the front PTO without a problem and the transmission engaged just fine because I drove it around for a minute. I purchased a 23 HP Vanguard (386447-JD318-B) a couple weeks ago from your Muncie store. Overall the install experience wasn't too bad, a little frustrating but the engine install went in O.K. Just a few points that will make the next customer experience even more pleasant.Couple of areas need some attention: Starting problems: Check key ignition switch for corrosion, check starter, probably add the reliable start relay.
