All it did was just change Luke's resolution against the Empire vs what he initially thought for RotJ. In KOTOR playing directly as the PC, the twist had immediate weight and impact, changing the whole story as I knew it and impacting future conversations.
The combat system is great but Kotor 2 is better in that respect. The characters are well written and the twist of the game will leave you feeling satisfied and with little smile.
