I'd seen other Blake Edwards films before, but The Great Race is absolutely bananas. Almost 3 hours, an overture, intermission, musical numbers, huge stunts and props, locations, etc. The budget was the equivalent of $100MM today which is absurd for a comedy in the 60's. Caught this one last night and overall quite enjoyed it, Cage doing Cage stuff (ABC: always be Cageing) but interested in blankies’ reading of the movie from a thematic/message perspective.
