If a gun has the JM stamp then it is a true Marlin not a Remington/Marlin as they don't have the JM stamp. IMO a gun with the JM stamp will hold it's value much better than a gun without it. Jan 23, 2024 · The issue with JM stamping came around in 2009. Your rifle was produced well before that date and anyone who is truly interested in Marlin firearms, knows this. The stamp is likely under the edge of the hand guard. Andrew

JM stamps were made in Connecticut by REAL Marlin workers, the REP stamp was made in New York by Remington. It seems to be that the JM stamped guns were better made. They are not flawless and do have problems but not at the rate Remington has been making them. Remington has been getting better though.
