The DGA's 2-handed R2 isn't much better than the DGM's, it is again a vertical only hit, but it has a shorter wind-up, but also has shorter range. It's R1 is the normal mostly vertical greataxe swing, which can stun-lock rather easily. I'd say the DGM is a bit better if you are looking at 2H.

Often no, so despite a greataxe getting 100-200 more AR than a compareable ultra weapon, if they both need 1 hit to kill small enemies and 3 to kill something like a dreg heap knight, the extra AR is irrelevant, especially considering the increased utility and superior moveset you would get from pretty much any other ultra great weapon.
