It is nearly the same thing as the model 336 Marlin. Marlin produced the Glenfield 30A with a birch stock instead of the higher grade walnut stock that they used on the 336. The Glenfields were sold through department stores at a cheaper price. As far as the serial number, Marlin serialized all their guns with the same designation for the years.
