The Vex aren't all over the place in Destiny 2. They're found in specific locations only. If you want to find the Vex in one go, then your best place would be to head over to Europa. Once at Europa, head over to Camus Ridge. yeah vex strike force needs some big changes. Right now there is a 30 minute period at the top of every hour (example, 1:45pm to 2:15pm) where there is a CHANCE a vex strike force will spawn. And then of course if the vex incursion zone is the same as terminal overload zone there is 24 hours with no vex incursions.
Vex Strike Force guarantees an exotic piece of armor you do not have yet for that class. For example, if you are on hunter, you can only get hunter armor. If you have all exotics for that class, then you get duplicates.

I've been playing a lot of vex strike force events to try and get better rolls on about 5 exotics I use regularly (4 of which are gloves) and they will not drop. If my memory serves, the armor exotics every season are tied tot he actual expansion, not the season. Regardless, I wouldn't be surprising if it was just weighted like lost sectors, not actually knockout. Same. It is heavily weighted, but not a 100% chance.
