The Marlin 336 used be available from Academy for around $499. Not anymore. Expect to pay at least $1000 for any of the new Marlin rifles. The machining and quality are why the new guns are so expensive. They're better made. If Ruger decides to make a 39A the same as the old ones, they won't be cheap. Don't expect a Marlin 39A to be $450 or less.

I've been looking around on the net toward questions of dry firing a Marlin namely the model 60. The 60 seems to be more commonly sold the most.Short pin protrusion is easy to fix on a 39. If you look at the pin, you'll see a big shoulder at the front where it hits the front of the firing pin slot in the bolt. File a bit off this until the pin sticks out enough, but not enough that it dents the chamber edge. Proceed slowly and preferably with a mike or a good set of calipers.

Easy fix. Break down the receiver, pull the bolt and the firing pin is in plain view laying in a groove along the top of the bolt. Remove the old broken firing pin, clean the groove and put in a bit of lube. Then, lay in a new firing pin and reassemble. And go shooting!!!! Marlin M39s are a fabulous .22 rifle.

An assembly line worker can't take the time to smooth burrs, etc like he once could. Overall the fit and finish on the new ones is good. There are and were exceptions to this. I see no great difference in accuracy between my 67 vintage 39A and my newer ones. The action on the older one is smoother.

I'd take down the rifle again, make sure it looks like everybody is in the right place, no obvious new scratching or dings. Sometimes I've had the firing pin try to hang up on the finger lever.On one of my 39a's the firing pin was slightly curved. I was having a lot of the same issues with mine. My grandfather and I straightened it very carefully with a hammer. I also cleaned it up with some very fine emery cloth. After that it, the action also seemed to be a lot smoother. I did this on both my 39CL's. A small nylon washer between the frame and the lever spring. On the underside of the frame, just ahead of the lever is a small screw that holds the lever spring in place. Placing a spacer between the frame and the spring lessened the pressure exerted by the spring on the lever.
