Your best bet is to get schematics and craft your own gear. Pick up the tier 2 schematics from Val Royeaux if you haven't already. That should be sufficient for the pre-Skyhold battle. Actually forgot about Schematics! The ones I found so far were pretty meh, and that's doing 90% of all the quests in explorable areas.
