Rifle spear is quite early on, same with holy blade. I forgot to mention that you get the rapier in the same place as the katana. What a superb demon!
Best class depends on your aims. Doesn't matter that much in the end but can make a difference starting out. Lone Survivor has the highest vitality, Military Veteran and Violent Past have high strength like you said.
