Jun 27, 2010 · C6 Corvette ZR1 & Z06 - "Service Charging System" message - Every once in a while, I could be idling or gunning it, this message comes up briefly and goes off. When at idle in traffic the voltage gauge holds at about 14 and then slowly drops to as low as 12, if I rev the engine a bit it goes back up. A couple of thoughts on this. If you screw up something with the wheel speed sensors you cause all 3 functions of the ABS system to fail. So if you don't see 3 service messages the problem isn't caused by a wheel speed sensor. The recall with the comb prevented fretting of the contacts in the steering sensor connector.Hence with the car idling and a multi meter, check the output voltage of the alternator via the back terminal under the rubber boot to the housing of the alternator. The voltage you are looking for it 15.6 volts. Next with the car still running, check the voltage at the battery terminal.If your Ford shows you the "Charging System Service Now" warning or the battery light illuminates, call your mechanic ASAP. Testing the output of the Alternator be a good starting point. Check your fusible links on the battery terminals ant burnt out.
